Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) sworn in

The newest member of Congress has arrived.

Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) won a special election Tuesday for Sen. Ed Markey's (D-Mass.) old House seat and has now been sworn in.

"Sen. Markey, you set a standard of excellence during your time in the House," Clark, a former state senator, said in a statement. "I look forward to carrying on your work for the people of our district and partnering with you and the entire Massachusetts delegation to move Massachusetts and our country forward."

Clark defeated a crowded field of Democratic candidates in the primary and won easily Tuesday in a heavily Democratic district.

Clark's swearing in means that, for Thursday's budget vote, the House has 232 Republicans, 201 Democrats and two vacancies. Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.) will soon resign after being confirmed as head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).
