Former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) will skydive on national TV to mark the third anniversary of a shooting that killed six and left her with years of recovery in front of her.

Giffords's jump will air on NBC's "Today Show" on Thursday. Wednesday is the three-year anniversary of the shootings at a Safeway grocery store in Tucson, Ariz., where Giffords had been holding a town hall.

Giffords will also answer questions with "Today Show" host and Tucson native Savannah Guthrie.

Guthrie said Wednesday that Giffords will compete the jump with a Navy Seal who was injured in Afghanistan.

Giffords left Congress in 2012 and has since focused on advocating for increased gun control, along with her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly.
