Vice President Biden thanked a top executive at Ford Motor Co. in Detroit on Thursday for "saving our ass."

Biden made the comment to Ford executive chairman Bill Ford Jr. In contrast to its competitors, Ford didn't take money from the Obama Administration's auto bailout after the 2008 financial crisis let the industry reeling.

Biden visited with Ford and Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) at the North American International Auto Show, which opens to  the public Saturday.

Seeing a car he liked, Biden joked that the press corps should get out the way because "I am driving it off."
