Former president Bill Clinton will campaign for Kentucky Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) later this month, bringing his star power to one of the highest-stakes Senate races of 2014.
Clinton will appear for Grimes, who is the Kentucky secretary of state, on Feb. 25 in Louisville, Grimes told the Louisville Courier-Journal Friday. "We are very excited to have President Clinton coming into town to make his first campaign stop of this election cycle," she said.
Grimes is challenging Senate Minority Mitch McConnell (R) in what's shaping up to be one of the most heated and expensive races of the cycle. Both candidates have been raising big bucks and polls show a close race.
Clinton is close friends with Grimes's father, Jerry Lundergan, a major player in Kentucky Democratic circles.
The Fix rated McConnell's seat as the seventh most likely to flip party control on its latest Friday Line.
