Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Thursday denounced conservative musician Ted Nugent for calling President Obama a "subhuman mongrel."

Paul said in a tweet that Nugent's rhetoric is out of bounds.

Paul's decision to denounce Nugent comes after Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) pointedly declined to do the same and then later shifted course -- somewhat.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Perry said Thursday morning that, "Anybody that’s offended – sorry, but that’s just Ted." By Thursday afternoon, he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that he's "got a problem" with the words Nugent used.

Nugent has been campaigning with the Republican seeking to replace Perry, state Attorney General Greg Abbott (R).

Abbott on Thursday reportedly fled reporters who tried to ask him about his decision to campaign with Nugent.
