Video: "Colbert Report" on Colbert Super PAC SHH! - Secret Second 501c4 - Trevor Potter
Count Stephen Colbert among those concerned about a proposed Internal Revenue Service regulation that would curb the political activities of social welfare nonprofit groups.
In a comment filed Thursday to the IRS, the Comedy Central host noted that in 2011 he established a 501(c)(4) organization called “Colbert Super PAC SHH Institute.” (At one point, the comedian also had a super PAC called Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow.)
Colbert wrote in his IRS comment that the suggested new rules “raise serious constitutional and legal issues” for the group “and other entities like it, which seek to make America a better place.”
“I request the opportunity to discuss these issues in detail through oral testimony at a public hearing,” he concluded.
