Club for Growth endorses Dan Sullivan in Alaska Senate race

The conservative Club for Growth PAC announced Wednesday that it will back former Alaska attorney general Dan Sullivan in the GOP primary to face Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska).

“Dan Sullivan is a fiscal conservative with a stellar track record in Alaska, and we strongly endorse him for the United States Senate,” Club for Growth President Chris Chocola said in a statement.

Sullivan has emerged as the GOP favorite in the primary and appears to be the favorite of the GOP establishment as well. He far outraised fellow GOP hopefuls Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell and 2010 nominee Joe Miller in the last fundraising quarter.

While the Club is on the same page as the national GOP in Alaska, its PAC often endorses against moderate Republican incumbents and establishment-aligned GOP candidates. It has endorsed Sen. Thad Cochran's (R-Miss.) primary opponent, Chris McDaniel, as well as GOP Senate hopefuls Rep. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Ben Sasse in Nebraska.

In the House, it is backing Rep. Mike Simpson's primary opponent, attorney Bryan Smith.

The Club notably endorsed Miller after his successful 2010 primary against Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). Murkowski later ran and won as a write-in candidate, after Miller's campaign imploded in the general election.

The Club has yet to endorse in several top GOP Senate primaries, including Georgia and Oklahoma.
