President Obama will visit the site of the deadly Washington state mudslide on April 22, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) said Tuesday.

“The White House told me this morning that President Obama will visit the SR 530 slide site April 22," Inslee said in a statement. "This will give the president the opportunity to see firsthand the devastation wrought by the slide as well as the incredible community spirit flourishing in Oso, Arlington and Darrington. The White House said the president will meet with families, first-responders and recovery workers."

The death toll in the mudslide reached 34 people Tuesday.

The visit comes on the eve of Obama's trip to Asia, where he will visit Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines.
