Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) hit the airwaves Tuesday with his first TV commercial of 2014, a 30-second spot emphasizing his record on jobs and small businesses.

"He's working to connect community colleges with manufacturers to help businesses fill the high-skill jobs that are open right now," says Elizabeth Abraham, the owner of Top Tool.

Franken faces a potentially competitive reelection campaign, but his race is not considered a top-tier pickup opportunity for Republicans. Businessman Mike McFadden, a Republican challenging Franken, has already been up on the air with a small ad buy hitting Franken.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Franken is spending at least $40,000 to air his ad.
