The nephew of "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson is running for the seat of embattled Rep. Vance McAllister (R-La.), who may step down at the end of this term.

"I'm running for Congress in Louisiana's Fifth District. Sign up for updates from the campaign," Zach Dasher tweeted Monday. Dasher describes himself as "a christian, conservative businessman, a father and candidate for Congress" in his Twitter profile.

"I got to looking around at the problems in politics today, and what I see in Washington, D.C., is no God. There is no God. The elite political class thinks they can be running our lives," he said in an interview with the Associated Press.

AMC's "Duck Dynasty" is a popular show that chronicles Robertson's Louisiana family, which created a duck call instrument popular among hunters. Phil's son Willie Robertson cut an ad for McAlllister when he ran in last year's special election.

In April, video surfaced of McAllister, who is married, kissing his then staffer. The revelation prompted criticism and the congressman said earlier this year that he would not run for reelection. But he has since opened the door to another bid.
