Buzzfeed posted audio of the exchange online Monday. Just before Barletta's remark, Sutton was talking about immigration.
Barletta's spokesman Tim Murtaugh did not immediately return a request for comment. But he told a local newspaper that Barletta was not advocating impeachment.
Murtaugh told the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader that Barletta's full response to frustrated Americans who suggest impeachment is: "Could that pass the House? Probably. Would the Senate ever convict? Certainly not. There’s not the will nationally to remove the president, so would it be wise to pursue that? Or would it be harmful to the country? Surely the latter.’ He is not advocating or proposing it.”
