Former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley (D), who is eyeing a 2016 White House bid, just had an unlucky break — literally.

O’Malley shared on Twitter on Monday that he had broken his elbow while lifting weights at the gym over the weekend.

O’Malley, a gym regular, thanked the staff at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, saying the “surgery went well & I’m on the road to a quick recovery.”

The former governor will wear a brace for three to five weeks, his spokeswoman Lis Smith said, but his condition should not affect any upcoming political travel.

O’Malley has trips planned to three early presidential nominating states, starting later this month with South Carolina. He plans to touch down in New Hampshire in March, and in Iowa in March and then again in April.

O’Malley, who stepped down as Maryland governor last month, has said he will probably announce by spring whether he will move forward with a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.
