Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) is resting at his Washington home after eye surgery Wednesday, according to his office.

Here's the full statement as provided by Reid aides:

"Senator Reid was released from the hospital Wednesday evening and has been resting in his residence in Washington since. The surgery was completed Wednesday afternoon. Doctors will continue to monitor his right eye and hope to have a clearer prognosis for his vision in the coming days. On doctor's orders, Senator Reid will continue to rest his eye for the next few days but will be back in the office when the Senate reconvenes after the upcoming district work period."

Reid suffered significant facial injuries and broken ribs after an exercise-related accident at his suburban Las Vegas home on New Year's Day, and has had two previous medical procedures.

Despite his injuries, the 75-year-old has said that he plans to run for reelection in 2016.
