The Trump campaign Wednesday offered a letter attributed to an "in-house staff writer," Meredith McIver, that purports to explain Melania Trump's near copycat phrasing from portions of Michelle Obama's address to the Democratic convention eight years ago.

In the letter, McIver writes that she offered to step down amid what she described as the "chaos" after Melania's Trump's speech in Cleveland on Monday. But McIver said her resignation was not accepted by Donald Trump.
