Trump officials said the September fundraising haul was largely driven by small donors. Altogether, 2.6 million individuals have contributed to his campaign, according to officials, matching the roughly 2.6 million donors that the Clinton campaign says have supported her bid.
“These numbers show that Donald Trump continues to have incredible broad based support from across America,” Steven Mnuchin, Trump's national finance chairman, said in a statement.
Trump also contributed an additional $2 million of his own money, bringing his personal donations to his campaign to more than $56 million. He has said he will spend up to $100 million to finance his White House run.
