There was none of the stuff that has been really scaring the country this fall: No creepy clowns. No Donald Trump wigs. No Hillary Clinton pantsuits.
Instead, President Obama donned a sweater and jeans and passed out candy with first lady Michelle Obama at the annual White House Halloween Party for military families and other local kids.
Obama kicked off the event with praise for this year's costumes and a pre-Halloween pardon.
“On this day at least you don’t have to pay attention to Michelle and healthy eating,” he said.
“Candy for everybody,” said the first lady, who has made healthy eating a major cause during her time in the White House.
The president, clearly in lame duck mode, risked the ire of (voting) parents by urging kids to gorge themselves on sweets later in the evening. “The more candy, the later you eat the candy, the better,” Obama said.
The Obamas then danced to Michael Jackson's “Thriller” and passed out candy to a long line of kids dressed as firefighters, superheroes, soldiers, Marines and one very cute Muhammad Ali.
According to reports, the best costume was a guy dressed up as comedian Zach Galifianakis, holding a kid on each hip dressed up as ferns. President Obama was a guest on Galifianakis's Funny or Die talk show, "Between Two Ferns," in 2014.
Also great: a little kid dressed up as Obama, with silvery hair.
