It’s rare for a lawmaker to integrate social media into their personal life, let alone their time in the kitchen.

But that’s what Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) is doing with her feed, cleancookingcongresswoman. The account has more than 2,700 followers who watch as Wasserman Schultz experiments with healthy recipes. “I created this IG account after two months of exploring a healthy cooking, clean eating lifestyle,” the Florida Democrat wrote last year. “I have never cooked before, really (except for Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies w/ my kids) … I started this journey because I wanted to feel healthier, lose some weight after gaining weight following breast cancer and set an example for my 3 amazing kids.”

Wasserman Schultz, who also chairs the Democratic National Committee (DNC), is easily one of Congress’s most dedicated Instagrammer, often posting multiple times a week. She’s also not shy about interacting with the followers she gains by using hashtags like #fitspiration and #eatclean. Other lawmakers are starting to get in on the action. “Looks great!” Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) wrote in response to the apple cake posted below. (Stefanik is also an active Instagrammer under the account elisestefanik.)
