It hasn’t been a great week for Ted Cruz — not that the campaign will admit it.

First, the Texas senator failed to win any of Tuesday’s five primaries. (Donald Trump made a clean sweep, growing his delegate lead ahead of contests in Indiana and California.) Then, Cruz made the unconventional choice to announce a running mate. No, he hasn’t won the Republican primary. Yes, it looks less and less likely that he will.

Nonetheless, that running mate is Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard executive who dropped out of the GOP contest on Feb. 10 after a dismal performance in the New Hampshire primary.
