In case you haven’t heard, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus really stepped in it Wednesday night on Twitter.
Lauer and NBC are facing plenty of criticism for their handling of the event. But on social media, it’s the reactions to this tweet that are really taking off:
@HillaryClinton was angry + defensive the entire time - no smile and uncomfortable - upset that she was caught wrongly sending our secrets.
— Reince Priebus (@Reince) September 8, 2016
Note to men everywhere: Don’t tell women to smile. Just don’t do it. It’s not okay.
The GOP has been on a roll this week. On Tuesday, during an interview with ABC, Trump said Clinton doesn’t have a “presidential look,” and “you need a presidential look.” These comments drew a sharp rebuke from Clinton’s campaign.
Combined, the remarks by Trump and Priebus set off a mini-firestorm on Twitter. One hashtag that is getting play? #PresidentialFace:
#PresidentialFace requires no smiling for anyone EVER. pic.twitter.com/TrUEntlfGR
