Gaithersburg junior running back Solomon Vault, who broke through the recruitment wall by picking up offers from Old Dominion and Marshall earlier this winter, has added a number of scholarship offers in the past month, Trojans Coach Kreg Kephart confirmed on Thursday.
Earlier this week, Vault recieved an offer from Minnesota, his first from a Big 10 school. Northwestern has also been targeting Vault, who has added Pittsburgh, UMass, Western Michigan and UNC-Charlotte to his list within the last month.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Vault was an honorable mention All-Met selection as a junior, when he rushed for 1,251 yards and 22 touchdowns for Gaithersburg — and he is sizing up to be one of the area’s premier running backs next fall. Gaithersburg will be on spring break starting next week, and Kephart said Vault will use the vacation to take unofficial visits to Marshall, Pittsburgh and possibly Wake Forest — the latter of which has yet to extend an offer.
On Thursday, Kephart said Vault is nearing former Trojans star Sean Stanley as one of the school’s most decorated recruits in the past five years. Stanley, a two-time first-team All-Met pick at defensive end in 2007 and 2008, signed with Penn State out of high school after a heavy recruitment period. He finished his career in Happy Valley this past fall, posting 35 tackles and four sacks as a senior.
