Senior goalie Sam Beazell has been steady in net for the St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes boys’ lacrosse team this spring, leading a defense that has allowed less than five goals per game.

Among the area’s top netminders, Beazell will head to Loyola in the fall with a high school highlight reel that just got a whole lot more spectacular.

Late in the first half of Friday’s Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I tournament semifinal against Woodberry Forest, Beazell scooped a save and quickly whipped a left-handed heave all the way to the opposite net before the opposing goalie could get back into position.

Beazell made 12 saves in that 8-5 win and then stopped seven more shots in the 6-5 victory over No. 2 Paul VI that gave the Saints their second straight state crown.

Riding some serious momentum, St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes will be back in action on Monday evening at No. 4 Landon, looking for its first Interstate Athletic Conference title.
