Friendship Collegiate offensive guard Quarvez Boulware wasn’t sure what to anticipate on his weekend trip to the University of Miami. It was his furthest trip south for a recruiting visit, but the ACC school left a lasting impression on the four-star lineman.

Boulware participated in the day camp at Miami and  took a photo on the iconic “U” that is cemented on campus.

“It was more than I expected. The facilities were upgraded a year ago and I really liked the school,” Boulware said. “One of the graduate assistants took me on a tour, and showed me some of the school buildings and stuff like that.”

Up next for Boulware is a trip to Maryland this weekend followed by a visit to Wake Forest. And from June 10-15 he will visit Florida State, Florida, Auburn and Alabama on his tour of the top SEC schools and the defending national champion. Florida State and Auburn have offered the 6-foot-2, 283-pound lineman.

Boulware lists academics — he wants to major in visual or digital arts with a minor in business management — and the proximity to his grandparents’ home as the top factors in his decision. He lives with his grandparents in the District.

“I’ve visited Maryland a lot. The fact that they’re close to home is a big plus for me.” Boulware said. “Plus they have academic assistants that really help the athletes.”

He said he will trim his list of 12 offers before the summer ends, and will commit during the season.

Before he heads to the SEC schools he will be in Beaverton, Ore., for the The Opening. Boulware was a top performer at the Nike Football Training Combine, but didn’t get his invite that day in late April. He displayed a strong punch at the line of scrimmage, and had quick feet to keep opposing lineman at bay. (Video of his performance is below)

The Opening’s linemen player personnel director Todd Huber called Boulware three weeks ago to inform he that he would be heading to Oregon July 7-10 for the nationally televised event on ESPN. “The only thing I can prove is that I’m one of the nation’s best,” Boulware said.
