Hannah Waller, So., South Lakes
A sophomore competing in her first indoor season, the South Lakes sprinting star has made tremendous strides since finishing third in the 100 meters as a freshman at last year’s Virginia 6A outdoor state championships. At the Class 6 indoor state meet, she was among the top times in the nation in the 300 (38.50 seconds) and the 55 (6.87), earning state titles in both and tying a facility record with the latter. Waller also was the Class 6 Region D champion in the long jump (18 feet 8 inches) and finished fifth in the 200 at the New Balance Nationals (24.41).
Destiny Ball, Sr., Battlefield
She captured the Virginia Class 6 Region D title in the shot put and holds an area-best mark of 44 feet 11.75 inches. She was also state runner-up.
Sydney Banks, Jr., Osbourn Park
A repeat state title-winner in high jump, Banks notched her best mark of the season at the Virginia Class 6 Region D meet, clearing 5 feet 10½ inches — among the best in the nation.
Sarah Coleman, Jr., West Springfield
The distance specialist holds the top area time in the 1,000 meters (2:55.95) and anchored the Spartans’ Virginia Class 6 state championship 4×800 relay team.
Olivia Duston, Sr., Herndon
The Virginia Tech signee was the Virginia Class 6 state champion in the 1,000 meters (2:56.38).
She tied for the area-best time in the 500 meters, a blistering 1:14.81 at The VA Showcase. Ebb also clocked a 39.44 in the 300 and helped the Bulldogs to a nation’s-best 3:39.60 in the 4×400. She signed with San Diego State.
Abigail Green, Sr., Walter Johnson
The 2017 Gatorade Maryland cross-country runner of the year clocked area-best times in the 1,600 (5:01.37) and 3,200 meters. She finished the season with state titles in both events, plus runner-up honors in the 800.
Taylor Grimes, Sr., Bishop McNamara
The area’s top triple jumper (39 feet 10 inches) also notched one of the nation’s top times in the 55-meter hurdles (7.89 seconds) and posted impressive marks in the long jump (18-5.25).
Isabelle Gulgert, Jr., South Lakes
She scored the Virginia Class 6 title in the 1,600 (5:03.04) and was the region runner-up in the 3,200.
Leah Phillips, So., Bullis
She posted one of the nation’s top times in the 300 (38.67 seconds) and clocked competitive times in the 55 hurdles and 55 dash. She was part of Bullis’s 4×200 relay team that set a national record at the New Balance Nationals (1:34.75).
Hannah Robertson, Sr., West Springfield
She had the area’s top mark in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet 9 inches at the Patriot District championships. She also won the Virginia Class 6 state title.
Masai Russell, Sr., Bullis
The senior had the area’s best time in the 55-meter hurdles (7.81 seconds), ran a blazing 38.74 in the 300 and was part of the Bulldogs’ national record-setting 4×55-meter shuttle hurdles team.
Alahna Sabbakhan, Jr., St. John’s
The talented middle-distance runner holds the area’s top time in the 800 (2:12.96). She was runner-up in the 500 at the D.C. state championships.
Nyla Ward, Jr., T.C. Williams
The region and Virginia state long-jump champion holds the area-best mark (19 feet 5 inches). She also picked up a region title in the 55-meter dash (7.07 seconds).
Taylor Wright, Jr., Northwest
The versatile athlete captured Maryland 4A state titles in the high jump and 300 meters.
Since taking over as head coach in 2013, Lee — a member of George Mason’s 1996 NCAA indoor championship team — has helped transform Bullis into one of the country’s elite programs. This season, he led his dominant girls’ relay teams to more success on the biggest stage: The Bulldogs set a national and world junior record in the 4×200-meter relay (1:35.39) and nearly accomplished the same in the 4×400.
