Wednesday night provided some of the best local girls’ soccer matches of the year, as the regional finals pitted many top teams against each other. Maybe the most anticipated matchup was a Class 6 Region D battle between two undefeated teams: Madison and Patriot.

The game did not disappoint, as both teams played smart and physical and were scoreless at the end of regulation. In double overtime, Madison’s Faith Lee found Julia Leas on a cross, and Leas sent the Warhawks to states.

“Overtime isn’t so bad if you have the momentum going into it,” Madison Coach Devon Dowell said. “We were constantly attacking in the final minutes of regulation, so I told them just to carry that momentum into overtime.”

The win sets up a meeting with Chantilly in the regional title game. Elsewhere in the area, Woodson will face South County in the Class 6 Region C title game, Briar Woods has a matchup with Potomac Falls in Class 5 Region C and Woodgrove will face Loudoun County for the 4C championship.
