Kerry Washington to speak at George Washington University commencement

For once we’ll have Kerry Washington right here on the National Mall, not just green-screened in! The star of “Scandal” will deliver the commencement address to George Washington University students in May, the school announced Monday.

The 1998 GWU graduate (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and former board member will also receive an honorary degree.

The actress, who plays a D.C. crisis-management shark on the ABC drama, has been a regular on the celebvocacy circuit since her eye-catching 2004 role in “Ray.” But in 2012 she became official A-list via her hit TV show, a prime-time speaking gig at the Democratic National Convention, and a key role in “Django Unchained.” GWU will hold its commencement ceremonies on the Mall on May 19.
