Prince Harry’s 2013 U.S. tour: Painfully well-behaved this time

Prince Harry wrapped up his six-day tour of the U.S. on Wednesday, and you can’t blame him for the mild air of disappointment. Clearly, he had a hard act to follow  — his own previous visit to the U.S. nine months earlier. You remember that one: The covert R&R stop in Vegas involving a naked co-ed billiards game and tabloid photos that clinched his reputation as the fun, sexy Windsor, later prompting this devilish apology from Captain Harry Wales: “It was probably a classic example of me probably being too much army, and not enough prince.”

Yet for all the screaming women lining his paths this week, we saw a young man so terribly polite and well-mannered that you could never quite forget he’s Prince Charles’s son. The absolute best quotes of Prince Harry’s spring 2013 visit:

May 10, viewing a high-tech rehab treadmill at Walter Reed: “We’ve got nothing like this back in the U.K. You guys as Americans are used to the technology; we are always behind.”

May 12, attending the Warrior Games for wounded soldiers in Colorado Springs: “There’s no reason the Warrior Games shouldn’t be as well recognized as the Olympics or Paralympics.”

May 15, kicking off a polo match in Greenwich, Conn.: “Thank you for a wonderful week. I have witnessed the extraordinary generosity of the people of this great nation.”

What have they done with our Harry?!?!? Sigh. Maybe he’s just growing up.
