A vodka bottle thrown onto the stage during a Toots and the Maytals concert in Richmond sent lead singer Frederick “Toots” Hibbert to the hospital Saturday night and forced the reggae pioneers to cut short their performance. A video of the incident shows Hibbert, 70, being struck hard on the head, dropping his mike and staggering off the stage. A rep for the concert organizers said the singer was released a few hours later in good spirits; unknown is whether he’ll continue an acoustic tour as planned. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that a 19-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault and public intoxication.
