Ringo Starr to write a children’s book, like everyone else

Ringo Starr (Joel Ryan / AP)

Children’s books — they’re the easiest kind to write, aren’t they? Just words and pictures! And is there anyone who writes a better children’s book than a celebrity? Joining the illustrious ranks of Madonna, Tiki Barber, Jamie Lee Curtis, Billy Crystal, Maria Shriver, Jay Leno, and several recent occupants of the White House is the legendary Ringo Starr. Simon and Schuster announced Tuesday it will release a picture book based on his hit Beatles’ tune “Octopus’s Garden,” a song originally inspired by a 1968 Sardinia vacation on Peter Sellers’s yacht. Illustrations will be done by Ben Cort, and the book will be packaged with a CD of original Starr music and a reading of the book. And since you’re wondering — Paul McCartney already published an animal-rights-themed children’s book in 2005.
