Geithner (J. Scott Applewhite / AP)

Five months after he left the administration, Timothy Geithner is finally free to leave Washington for real — having just sold his Bethesda home. The former Treasury secretary and his wife Carole put the four-bedroom rambler on the market in March; it went under contract within days for their $995K asking price (just a little more than what they bought it for), but the Geithners put off the closing until they were ready to vacate the place in July. Much less drama than the last time they tried to sell a house — the $1.6 million Mamaroneck, N.Y., Tudor they left for his Beltway appointment in 2009, which lingered on the market for months before they decided to rent it instead. They’ll move back in, now that they’re returning to the NYC area for his new Council on Foreign Relations post.
