Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the lawmaker who made history as the first woman to give birth twice while in Congress, is about to break her own record: In December, she’s expecting her third. The Washington state Republican, 44, and husband Brian Rodgers, a retired Navy commander, announced the news Friday afternoon. She had their first child, Cole — born with Down Syndrome in April 2007 — during her second term, and their daughter Grace in December 2010, just after she won her fourth term. “Being a wife and mother have been the most wonderful and blessed experiences in my life,” she said. “For some time, Brian and I have hoped we would be able to have another child.” She said she intends to continue as House GOP conference chair and run for reelection next year. “So we will continue to balance the challenges of parenting young children and working – just like countless moms and dads all across America.”
