“I realized right away that what I said was wrong. I was instantly embarrassed . . . I should have known better.”

J. Cole apologizing for using “autistic” and “retarded” as an insult (against rival rappers, natch) as a lyric in his guest spot on Drake’s “Jodeci Freestyle.” Ironic, because as he also noted on his blog, he resents the knee-jerk tendency of rappers to apologize every time someone is offended (rap is “going to ruffles feathers at times,” and many apologies are “really only for the sake of saving an endorsement”). But “this is not the case today. This letter is sincere. This apology IS necessary. . . . there’s nothing cool about mean-spirited comments about someone with autism.”
