Getaway for the Obamas
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are making the most of their vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, The Post’s Billy Kenber reports from the island. The Obamas spent Sunday evening dining with a half-dozen friends in a private room at the Sweet Life Caféin Oak Bluffs. On Monday, they dropped in on a cocktail party hosted by Broderick Johnson, who was an adviser to the 2012 Obama campaign, and his wife, NPR’s Michele Norris, at their home in West Tisbury.
It’s a kids-free vacation so far: Daughters Malia and Sasha are away at summer camp and will join their parents at their $7.6 million vacation home in Chilmark sometime soon.
The president has so far used this vacation to catch up with old friends and hang out on the golf course. He played a round with Robert Wolf, a chief Wall Street ally, and two staffers at the Farm Neck Golf Club on Sunday. Obama three-putted on the first hole, to the amusement of a gathered press pool and his playing partners.
Obama tried out the Vineyard Golf Club on Monday, in a foursome that included lawyers Vernon Jordan and Allison Davis but no press for this round.
On Tuesday, the president — perhaps taking advantage of his wife’s absence — stopped to pick up a fried lunch of shrimp, oysters, onions and french fries before heading to visit senior adviser Valerie Jarrett. From there, the president put aside the golf clubs for a game of basketball at the Oak Bluffs School with several staffers and Eric Whitaker, a friend from Chicago.
And come evening, the president and the first lady enjoyed a romantic dinner alone at the Beach Plum Restaurant in Menemsha, on the island’s southern tip..
Joe Lockhart engaged
It’s time for former Clinton White House press secretary Joe Lockhart to update his relationship status. The Glover Park Group founding partner, who worked for a stint in communications at Facebook but is now back at Glover Park, proposed to girlfriend Giovanna Gray on Tuesday. Lockhart posted a picture on Facebook of Gray posing with her engagement ring at the Olympic ice hockey arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. — where, Lockhart wrote, “miracles really do happen.”

The Associated Press reports that Ashba proposed to his girlfriend of three years, model Nathalia Henao, after a helicopter ride last week. The 40-year-old musician thanked the police department on Instagram on Saturday for “the most amazing helicopter private tour over Vegas!” According to the AP, the police issued a statement Saturday acknowledging that two civilians were granted a ride-along in a helicopter, but didn’t offer names or details.
