The first lady on bangs, 2016 and turning 50

In an interview with Parade magazine, on newsstands Sunday, first lady Michelle Obama talked about ditching the bangs (“hard to make speeches with hair in your face!”), whether she’ll ever run for president (“No”) and whether she’ll see a female president in her lifetime (“Yes, I think the country is ready”). Obama declined to say whether she thought Hillary Clinton would get the job, as Clinton hasn’t announced her candidacy. The first lady also addressed comments that she made in April in which she accidentally described herself as a single mother. She explained to Parade that the president is still very involved in his daughters’ lives, but he can’t be everywhere all of the time. “I give my husband credit — he knows who their friends are, he knows what their schedule is,” she said. Parade asked Obama how she felt about turning 50 in January — no birthday anxiety from the first lady. “I have never felt more confident in myself, more clear on who I am as a woman,” she said. “I want to be this really fly 80-, 90-year old.”

Pro-wrestler comes out; WWE voices support

WWE wrestler Darren Young is the latest pro athlete to come out of the closet, telling a TMZ photographer on Thursday that, yes, a gay wrestler can be successful in the WWE. “Absolutely! Look at me,” Young said. “I’m a WWE Superstar and to be honest with you . . . I’ll tell you right now that I’m gay.” WWE voiced support for Young, the first WWE wrestler to publicly say that he is gay. “WWE is proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality, and we will continue to support him as a WWE Superstar,” the organization said in a statement.

Barbara Bush’s beau knows how to charm dad

Finding common ground with your girlfriend’s father can be tricky — especially if he happens to be a former president of the United States. But Barbara Bush’s boyfriend of four years, painter and creative consultant Miky Fabrega, can talk shop with George W. Bush. They’re both interested in painting. “My dad is obsessed with art right now,” she told People magazine. “So anyone that likes art, he is excited about.” The Bush daughter spoke to People about her relationship — Fabrega’s based in Panama, she in New York — and her work in Africa with the nonprofit she helped found, Global Health Corps. She also spoke about politics and 2016. She’s not planning any sort of run, but she did tell the magazine that she’d like to see the “unbelievably accomplished” Hillary Clinton make a bid for the White House.

Artist’s assistant is charged in thefts

A former assistant to artist Jasper Johns has been charged with fraud for allegedly stealing 22 paintings from the pop artist’s Connecticut studio. The Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the indictment against James Meyer, 51, on Thursday, the Associated Press reports. Meyer is accused of lifting the works between 2006 and 2012. He made $6.5 million from selling the art and pocketed half of that.
