Lance Armstrong, British paper reach agreement
The Sunday Times and Lance Armstrong have reached an agreement after the Times sued the bicyclist to recover damages from a libel settlement, the Associated Press reported Sunday. The Times was forced to pay Armstrong about $470,000 in 2006 to settle a legal case after it published claims that the 41-year-old cyclist took performance-enhancing drugs. When Armstrong admitted last year that he was part of a massive doping program, the Times announced plans to sue Armstrong for about $1.6 million to reclaim the 2006 settlement, plus interest and legal costs. The paper and Armstrong reportedly settled on amiable terms. “It is the final episode in a long legal battle between this newspaper and the fallen icon,” the paper announced Sunday.

A document filed in U.S. District Court in Savannah, Ga., said that both sides agreed to drop the lawsuit “without any award of costs or fees to any party.” The settlement comes after Deen, 66, was dropped by the Food Network and other business partners after she said under oath that she had used racist slurs in the past.
