Good news for Valerie Harper
Actress Valerie Harper revealed some good medical news on the “Today” show: the “Mary Tyler Moore Show” star, 74, who was diagnosed with a form of terminal brain cancer in March, may be beating the disease. In clips from a documentary that will air in September, physician Jeremy Rudnick said that “we’re getting pretty close to a remission,” in Harper’s case. “It defies the odds.”
Booker gets star-studded boost
Business magnate Ron Burkle, actors Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and more will co-host a fundraiser for Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, ahead of the state’s special election in October. The Hollywood Reporter says that Burkle will hold the Sept. 23 event at his house, with tickets ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. The slate of A-list co-hosts includes actress Jennifer Garner, filmmaker J.J. Abrams and former U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas Nicole Avant.
