Carrie Underwood, Don Cheadle to lead Emmy tribute to news coverage of JFK assassination, Beatles debut

We’re bracing for a glut of TV shows marking the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s assassination in November, but this one is. . . different:  The Emmy broadcast Sunday will feature a “special tribute” to television’s role in covering the shooting and aftermath, led by Carrie Underwood and Don Cheadle. This will then lead into a commemoration of another milestone — the Beatles’ first performance on the Ed Sullivan Show, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“To have an opportunity to look back at a time that represented television’s finest hour in a program that celebrates so many of this year’s achievements is what makes the Emmys special,” Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich told the paper.
