Yet another shutdown shutout has hit the diplomatic community, this one with royal implications. A ceremony next Wednesday to commemorating the 70th anniversary of the massive evacuation effort that rescued most of Denmark’s Jews from the Nazis has been postponed. Like so many other events, it was scheduled to take place on government property — the Cannon Office Building. Luminaries lined up for the occasion were Minority Whip Steny Hoyer — son of a Danish immigrant — and Princess Benedikte, the younger sister of Queen Margrethe II. Earlier this week, the National Gallery was forced to cancel a party for its new Byzantium art exhibit, where Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras was to be a guest of honor.
