“And then instead of apologizing when I should have, I went on to hurt more people by writing a book.”

– Rielle Hunter, John Edwards’s mistress…as she prepares to release a new book. Or specifically, a “revised” edition of her previous literary effort, titled “What Really Happened: John Edwards, Our Daughter and Me.” Last summer, Hunter went on a media tour mostly to defend herself, but also promote the book — which insisted that she was not a homewrecker and that Edwards’s late wife, Elizabeth, was not a saint. We’re just guessing here, but the other woman criticizing the dead wife probably had something to do with the lousy book sales. So her publisher came up with an idea: An updated version where Hunter is “annotating all of my regrets and mistakes.” In a Huffington Post blog entry titled, “I, Rielle Hunter, Apologize,” the ex-mistress explains why it happened: “I am a product of infidelity. Both of my parents cheated on each other, and as a kid it damaged me.”
