Winners of the 2013 $125,000 President’s Cup Grand Prix, Kent Farrington and his horse, Blue Angel.

The Washington International Horse Show is usually a great place to spot celebrity parents (Bruce Springsteen, Sheila Johnson, etc.), trying to blend into the crowd while cheering on their kids — but we didn’t see any this year. Though there were a few A-list offspring: Steven Spielberg’s 16-year-old daughter, Destry Spielberg (dad was nowhere to be found) and Charlotte Jacobs, granddaughter of Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs.

While the show was mostly a casual, family-friendly event, ritzy corporate sponsors (Hermès, Boeing, etc.) cashed in, treating VIP guests to fancy club seats. About 20,000 horse enthusiasts filtered in and out of the arena during the week-long show at Verizon Center with some of the world’s top equestrian athletes, capped by the $125,000 President’s Cup Grand Prix (a World Cup qualifier) Saturday night. Veteran jumping rider Kent Farrington took home the prize, while last year’s World Cup champion Beezie Madden came in third place. Earlier in the evening, junior rider Meredith “Maddy” Darst scored the top prize during the Hermès-sponsored Equitation Finals.
