South Dakota cattle ranchers can rejoice: Outspoken animal-rights activist Joan Jett will not perform on the state’s tourism float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. After the longtime PETA supporter was named last week to appear on the float, it caused such an uproar among ranchers that parade officials agreed Friday to move her to a different float, the Associated Press reports. But according to Jett, the choice was hers. “I’ve decided to switch from South Dakota to another float because people’s political agendas were getting in the way of what should be a purely entertainment-driven event,” Jett said in a statement.
