Adam Levine named People’s Sexiest Man Alive

And the Sexiest Man Alive is…Adam Levine.

(How did that happen? Well, consider the fact that the Maroon 5 frontman loves taking off his clothes. We don’t know People magazine’s exact methodology choosing the honoree, but that probably helps.)

Of course, it was announced on “The Voice,” the NBC singing competition where Levine is a judge. “It is confirmed, ladies and gentlemen,” declared host Carson Daly, holding up the magazine cover declaring it as fact. “Our own coach, Adam Levine. Look at that hunk. Sexiest man alive.”

“Didn’t mean to put you on the spot,” he added to Levine, who had the decency to look embarrassed. “How do you feel?”

“I feel sexy,” Levine deadpanned.

The pop singer, 34, is the first musician to top the magazine’s annual list. Of course, Levine has been exploring multiple career paths these days. That includes landing a development deal with NBC; testing the acting waters in a feature film opposite Keira Knightley; and being a professional dater of supermodels (he recently got engaged to Victoria’s Secret star Behati Prinsloo).

In his upcoming People cover story, the magazine revealed that Levine says he “loves to be naked,” and that he cries at movies including “E.T.” Just so you know.

Meanwhile, Levine’s honor has been the worst kept secret in the blogosphere – even “Today” host Savannah Guthrie teased him during an interview last week about rumors that he would receive the “sexy” title. “Would you be excited about that? A good resume builder?” she gushed.

“Noooo,” muttered Levine, looking away.

“Would it be embarrassing? Would it be exciting?” Guthrie pressed.

“It would be a lot of things, I don’t know,” Levine offered coyly. “It’s an interesting idea.”

Levine joins a distinguished group that includes Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum; and back in the day, George Clooney, Sean Connery, Tom Cruise and Nick Nolte (!). In case you were wondering, here’s a list of every winner of the prize since it started in 1985.
