Paul Walker Dead at 40
“The Fast and the Furious” star Paul Walker, 40, died in a car crash Saturday afternoon near Los Angeles, his publicist Ame Van Iden confirmed. Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded about 3:30 p.m. to a report of a crash and found a red Porsche Carrera GT engulfed in flames in the community of Valencia.
Walker was the passenger in the vehicle when his friend and business partner Roger Rodas, 38, lost control and slammed into a tree, authorities said. Rodas was also killed. The sheriff’s department is reporting that speed was a factor in the deadly collision.
Shortly before the crash, the two friends attended an event that Walker organized through his nonprofit, Reach Out Worldwide, as a fundraiser to support typhoon-relief efforts in the Philippines. Best known for his role as Brian O’Conner in the “Fast & Furious” franchise, Walker has a number of action movies slated for release, including “Hours” and next year’s seventh “Fast & Furious” films. He is survived by a 15-year-old daughter.
On Saturday night, “Fast & Furious” series co-star Vin Diesel posted a photograph on Instagram of him and Walker at a premiere alongside the caption: “Brother I will miss you very much. I am absolutely speechless.”
Ludacris, the rapper-actor who also worked on the “Fast & Furious” films, took to Twitter to remember the star. “Your humble spirit was felt from the start,” he wrote. “Wherever you blessed your presence you always left a mark, we were like brothers.”
