Count “peak bloom!” among the myriad of only-in-the-District expressions that make sense here, if nowhere else. The delicate pink blossoms on which the winter-weary hopes of an entire city are pinned have finally emerged on Washington’s cherry trees — and just in time for the annual parade. In honor of this harbinger of sunnier days, the staff at the National Cherry Blossom Festival provided us with a playlist for your flower-watching weekend.

1. “Happy” — Pharell Williams

“This is definitely our mantra this spring.”

2. “Sakura, Sakura” — Yo-Yo Ma

“This traditional Japanese folk song means ‘cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms.'”

3. “Groove Ready” — Chelsea Green and the Green Project

“Chelsea Green does  extraordinary things with the violin.”

4. “Dream in Color” — Regina Belle

“We can’t wait to see her perform this song in the Parade on Saturday.”

5. “Cherry, Cherry” — Neil Diamond

“We love this for the title alone!”

6. “Feeling Good” — Nina Simone

“This definitely speaks to the new season finally being here.”

7. “Nada Sou Sou” (Ceaseless Tears) — Rimi Natsukawa

“Rimi performed her hit song in Japan during this year’s opening ceremony of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.”

8. “Singin’ In The Rain” — Gene Kelly

“We’ve had our share of snow and rain in early spring, and this song reminds us to roll with it.”

9. “Beautiful Day” — U2

“But now we’re on the flip side of the weather coin – finally.”
