Talk about range. Last seen in a small part as a non-violent Quaker in the Oscar-wining drama “12 years a slave,” actor Brad Pitt will next play Gen. Stanley McChrystal, former commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan.
“The Operators,” a military drama based on the late journalist Michael Hastings’s 2012 book of the same name, will take a peel-back-the-curtain peek at U.S. operations in Afghanistan. Hastings, who died in 2013, famously profiled McChrystal and his staff for Rolling Stone magazine in 2010. The controversial story, in which McChrystal’s aides openly criticized Vice President Biden and other top administration officials, eventually led to McChrystal’s resignation from his post in Afghanistan.
Australian director David Michod will write and direct the film starring Pitt as McChrystal, according to New Regency, one of the production companies, along with Pitt’s Plan B, backing the project.
