On April 21, The Atlantic hosted a book party for the magazine’s May issue cover stars, journalists Katty Kay and Claire Shipman, whose new business guide for women, “The Confidence Code,” is out now. The intimate reception, held at the envy-inducing Kalorama home of Virginia Shore and Tom Hardart, was attended by a handful of Washington’s media elite and the folks with offices in the West Wing they regularly rub elbows with. NBC’s David Gregory, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell and President Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett all raised their glasses to Shipman and Kay. But there was one particular guest who Shipman called out during her speech — her husband, White House press secretary Jay Carney. When explaining some early difficulties with the book’s Web site, Shipman addressed her husband, “I have so much more sympathy for the Obamacare rollout,” she joked.
