If you pour it, they will come. Who knew a good cup of joe could wrangle in so many of Washington’s boldfacers? Despite umbrella weather Wednesday night, the grand opening of Peet’s Coffee & Tea on Pennsylvania Avenue was packed with the likes of lobbyist Heather Podesta, CNN’s Dana Bash, Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.), Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), former deputy White House press secretary Amy Weiss plus a huge contingent of White House staffers. On tap (besides caffeine) was a variety of coffee and tea-inspired cocktails created by local mixologist Erik Holzherr. According to our tipster, the old Caribou Coffee in the same space (Peet took over all Caribou locations in Washington) was a favorite among White House staffers for “off-the-record” conversations.
