The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is historically a divisive event. Some people can’t wait to fire up their C-SPAN and watch a bunch of Hollywood celebrities they know hobnob with a bunch of D.C. celebrities they don’t. Others are kind of grossed out by the whole boozy, schmoozy affair, arguing — among other things! — that it’s not particularly dignified for politicians and reporters to beg for selfies with musicians and actresses.

Whatever side you fall on, the below photographs should prove fascinating! We personally have to nod to the attitude of Barbara Walter’s entourage: asked for a selfie on the red carpet, one of Walter’s attendants swept her away — shaking his head and saying “no selfies.” AMEN.

ABC’s Sara Haines selfie-photobombs Darby Stanchfield, apparently unaware the “Scandal” star consented to snapping selfies with other people. (See, there she is with Meghan McCain!)

“Meet the Press’s” David Gregory with, of all people,

“Today’s” Al Roker with “20-20’s” Deborah Roberts and actress Mindy Kaling:

“Scandal’s” Dan Bucatinsky and Bellamy Young with Cosmopolitan editor Joanna Coles:

NBC’s Savannah Guthrie and “a fan” … as taken by the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations:

Guthrie and Ambassador Samantha Power also snagged their own shot:

Media mogul Arianna Huffington with White House Office of Management and Budget Director Sylvia Mathews Burwell, football player Richard Sherman and Sherman’s girlfriend, Ashley Moss:

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus with “Duck Dynasty’s” Willie Robertson:

Huffington Post editorial director Howard Fineman with the Seahawks’ Richard Sherman and the Dos Equis “Most Interesting Man in the World”:

And here is the (in-demand!) Sherman with musician/prolific Instagrammer Questlove:

Questlove again, this time with Katie Couric:

President Barack Obama with Malaysian Prime Minister Mohd Najib Tun Razak en route to the event:

Make-up artist/empress Bobbi Brown with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer:

Slate political reporter Dave Weigel with former Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow:

Megan Whittemore, press secretary for House majority leader Eric Cantor, with ‘NSync’s JC Chasez:

Actor Kevin Hart showing off his … “elevator swag”:

Fox News’ Kimberly Guilfoyle and Ainsley Earhardt with actress Sofia Vergara:

New York Times’ media reporter Brian Stelter, “Scandal” actress Katie Lowes, New York traffic anchor Jamie Stelter and actor Adam Shapiro:

DuJour Media CEO Jason Binn with actor John Leguizamo:

Social Security Works’ communications director Lacy Crawford, Jr., with Jessica Simpson … and Gloria Estafan … and… (this kind of seems like his thing every year):

ABC co-president Ben Sherwood with (a slightly sleepy?) Barbara Walters:

And last, but certainly not least, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi:

When all is said and snapped, however, there can be no better WHCD selfie than the series by 10-year-old “Kid President.” Maybe the adults should leave the selfies to him next time.
