Four more years! Four more years! On Tuesday, John Fox Sullivan, Atlantic Media’s publisher-at-large, won reelection as mayor of Washington, Va., the hamlet best known for being the home of the Inn at Little Washington.
Sullivan, who spent decades covering politics but these days spends far more time in “little” Washington than he does in the bigger one, had margins any candidate would envy, getting 28 of the 29 votes cast.
He says the biggest challenge of his job as Hizzoner of the 135-citizen town has been encouraging its economic growth while maintaining its quaint small-town charm. An easier task? Helping pals from the city score coveted reservations at the Inn, owned by his close friend Patrick O’Connell (who won another term to the town council in the Tuesday election, too). “That seems to be one of my major jobs,” Sullivan adds.
