Hey isn’t that … Kiwi pop queen Lorde watching Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome cross the finish line to win Saturday’s Preakness Stakes at the Pilmco Race Course in Baltimore. Sporting her signature mop of big brunette curls but minus the usual moody dark lipstick, the 17-year-old “Royals” singer attended the races with her mom, New Zealand poet Sonja Yelich, after she performed at the InField Fest organized by 9:30 Club co-owner Seth Hurwitz.
According to our tipster, artists performing at the five-year-old InField Fest (which this year also included rapper Nas) tend to head back to their trailers, then off to the next big gig after their set, but the teenage star, who was appearing in Maryland for the first time, wanted to check out the races — even though she isn’t old enough to place a bet.
