His daughter might be the It-est of It girls, but being the proud pop of Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o isn’t Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o’s only claim to fame. He’s actually a senator in the Kenyan parliment. And he’s in Washington this week, as the Smithsonian Folklife Festival celebrates his native country.

The elder Nyong’o on Tuesday visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture and attended the opening ceremony of the festival, which this year highlights the food, arts and music of Kenya and China. (We’d count Lupita Nyong’o’s cheekbones alone as one of the African nation’s major cultural contributions).

He’s also slated to attend the museum’s Africa Underground event Saturday. Hey, got a plus-one ticket, dad?
